Olivia Dean And Sam Fender Break UK Record

Rein Me In just made pop history. Olivia Dean and Sam Fender's duet has officially become the longest-running Number One single the UK has ever had, smashing a chart record that stood for a huge 73 years. The song has now spent 19 weeks at the very top, finally overtaking the old record and beating fierce competition from Shakira along the way. A few days ago the track had only tied the record, but this week it went one better and claimed it outright. It is a brilliant achievement for two very different artists who teamed up almost by accident, and it shows just how much fans still love this song months after release. Expect plenty of celebrating, and maybe even a special performance to mark the milestone.

Olivia Rodrigo Surprises Fans At Lollapalooza

Olivia Rodrigo pulled off one of the best surprises of the summer at Lollapalooza. She jumped on stage with rock legends Smashing Pumpkins, alongside fellow guest Yungblud, for a nostalgia-packed performance of their classic song Thirty-Three. The Chicago Sun-Times called the whole show a smash hit, with critics raving about how well Olivia's voice fit the moody, guitar-heavy track. It was a proper full-circle moment, since Smashing Pumpkins have long been an influence on her own music. Fans in the crowd could not believe their luck, and clips of the surprise appearance spread across social media within minutes. If Olivia keeps popping up at festivals like this, nobody's summer plans are safe from a surprise cameo.

Today's Lesson: The Chin Stand

real Poppie words

Warm up first

  1. Warm up your back gently first with some cat stretches and a soft bridge, and lie on a soft mat, never a hard floor.
  2. Only try this once your bridge feels comfy, because it comes from the same bendy back.

Picture the shape (it is NOT a cobra!)

  1. A chin stand is not a cobra. In a cobra your legs stay flat on the floor. In a chin stand your hips lift up high and your back bends so much that your feet come up and over toward your head. You balance on your chest, with your chin gently forward and your hands pressing the mat to steady you. Think of your body as a big deep arch with your bottom up in the air.

Get into it slowly

  1. Kneel on the mat and put your forearms flat down in front of you, elbows about shoulder-width apart.
  2. Tuck your toes under and lift your hips up high toward the ceiling, so you're balanced on your forearms with your bottom in the air โ€” a bit like a downward dog, but resting on your forearms.
  3. Keeping your hips lifted, let your chest sink gently down and forward so your back begins to arch. Your weight comes onto your chest and your hands press the mat to hold you steady โ€” never any weight on your neck.
  4. Now bend your knees and let your feet drop down behind you, toward the back of your head, as your back arches a little more.

How far to go

  1. Let your feet come toward your head only as far as feels like a gentle stretch, never a sharp pain. If it hurts, come down slowly. This is a really bendy one, so go a tiny bit at a time.

Get bendier over time

  1. Hold for just a few seconds at first, then rest. This is a weeks-not-days one โ€” a little more each time.
  2. Keep breathing and stay relaxed. Bendy backs come from calm, gentle practice, never from forcing it.

Coach's tip: this is a bendy one โ€” little and often, a gentle stretch, never a push, and never any weight on your neck. Always on something soft! ๐Ÿ’œ

Recipe 2: Spaghetti Carbonara

real Poppie words

Before you start

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Get everything out: spaghetti, bacon, 2 eggs, a big handful of grated pecorino romano (or a mix of 1/3 parmigiano and 2/3 pecorino), and the pepper grinder.

The pasta

  1. Big pot of water on to boil with a good pinch of salt.
  2. When it's properly bubbling, spaghetti in. Set a timer for what the packet says โ€” usually about 10 minutes.

The bacon

  1. While the pasta cooks, snip the bacon into little pieces with scissors โ€” way easier than a knife.
  2. Into a big pan on medium heat until it's golden and a little bit crispy. If you like mushrooms, slice a few in with the bacon โ€” they make it even better.

The sauce

  1. Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl, add the cheese and loads of black pepper, and mix it up with a fork. That's the sauce โ€” no cream in a real carbonara, ever.
  2. Just before the pasta is done, scoop out half a mug of the cooking water and keep it โ€” you'll want it in a minute.

Put it together

  1. Drain the spaghetti and tip it into the bacon pan. Now take the pan OFF the heat.
  2. Pour in the egg mix and keep everything moving โ€” the heat of the pasta cooks the sauce until it goes silky.
  3. Too thick? Add a splash of that pasta water you saved.
  4. Into a big bowl, extra cheese on top, done.

Chef's tip: the pan comes OFF the heat before the eggs go in โ€” that's the whole secret. Eggs in a hot pan turn into scrambled eggs, and scrambled eggs are for breakfast. ๐Ÿ

Missing Library Book Found Bricked Into A Fireplace

Talk about an overdue book. A library book vanished 150 years ago and has just turned up bricked inside an old fireplace during renovations. Nobody knows how it got there, but it is officially the latest return in library history, and easily the world's most brilliant hiding spot.
