Sabrina Carpenter Welcomed Into The Mamma Mia Family

Sabrina Carpenter left fans completely stunned when she turned up for a surprise Mamma Mia! performance, belting out the ABBA-fuelled hits like she was born for the role. Clips of the moment shot round social media within minutes, with fans losing their minds over how good she sounded. Ella Langley Scores Her First UK Number 1

Country star Ella Langley has landed her first ever UK Number 1, sending her boot-scooting anthem Choosin' Texas straight to the top of the charts. It is the biggest moment of her career so far, the sort of chart-topping breakthrough every artist dreams about. Choosin' Texas has that cowboy-boots, line-dancing energy that is impossible not to move to, which clearly helped it climb all the way to the top spot. Landing a first Number 1 is no easy feat, especially with the charts as competitive as they currently are, which makes the achievement even more impressive. Ella can now officially call herself a chart-topping artist, a title nobody can ever take away from her. The only question now is whether she can follow it up and make it two Number 1s in a row.

Taylor Swift's Puppy Wendy Stars In Fashion Campaign

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's new puppy Wendy has already landed her first modelling job, starring in a brand new fashion campaign alongside the couple. Wendy is a fluffy white Samoyed, the breed famous for looking like it is permanently smiling, and she is stealing scenes just weeks after her big debut. Unsurprisingly, the campaign has sent Samoyed searches through the roof, with fans everywhere suddenly dreaming of getting a fluffy pup of their own. Vets and dog experts have been quick to jump in with advice though, pointing out that Samoyeds need serious grooming and exercise, so it is worth doing your homework before falling for those puppy eyes. Still, it is hard to blame anyone for wanting a dog that photographs this well. Expect plenty more Wendy content very soon, this puppy is clearly just getting started.

Today's Lesson: The Elbow Stand

real Poppie words

Warm up first

  1. Warm up your shoulders, wrists and back, and work on a soft mat with a clear wall behind you. Never do this cold.
  2. The wall is there to catch your feet while you're learning, just like when you learned your handstand.

Get the shape

  1. Kneel down facing the wall and put your forearms flat on the mat, elbows about shoulder-width apart, hands pointing forward. This is your strong, steady base.
  2. Look at a spot on the mat between your hands.

Up to the wall

  1. Walk your feet in and gently kick your legs up so your heels rest on the wall. The wall is your helper.
  2. Squeeze your legs together and point your toes straight up to the ceiling.

Hold and come down

  1. Hold for a few steady breaths. Then bring one leg down at a time, nice and soft.
  2. When the wall feels easy, try balancing away from it for just a second. Have a grown-up or helper stand close to spot you.

Coach's tip: use the wall as your helper until it feels easy, and always on something soft! πŸ’œ

Recipe 2: Spaghetti Carbonara

real Poppie words

Before you start

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Get everything out: spaghetti, bacon, 2 eggs, a big handful of grated pecorino romano (or a mix of 1/3 parmigiano and 2/3 pecorino), and the pepper grinder.

The pasta

  1. Big pot of water on to boil with a good pinch of salt.
  2. When it's properly bubbling, spaghetti in. Set a timer for what the packet says, usually about 10 minutes.

The bacon

  1. While the pasta cooks, snip the bacon into little pieces with scissors (way easier than a knife).
  2. Into a big pan on medium heat until it's golden and a little bit crispy. If you like mushrooms, slice a few in with the bacon. They make it even better.

The sauce

  1. Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl, add the cheese and loads of black pepper, and mix it up with a fork. That's the sauce: no cream in a real carbonara, ever.
  2. Just before the pasta is done, scoop out half a mug of the cooking water and keep it. You'll want it in a minute.

Put it together

  1. Drain the spaghetti and tip it into the bacon pan. Now take the pan OFF the heat.
  2. Pour in the egg mix and keep everything moving: the heat of the pasta cooks the sauce until it goes silky.
  3. Too thick? Add a splash of that pasta water you saved.
  4. Into a big bowl, extra cheese on top, done.

Chef's tip: the pan comes OFF the heat before the eggs go in. That's the whole secret. Eggs in a hot pan turn into scrambled eggs, and scrambled eggs are for breakfast. 🍝

New York's Leftover Oysters Are Rebuilding Reefs

New Yorkers scoff down about 3 million oysters, and instead of binning the shells, they are being collected and dropped straight back into the harbour. Turns out old oyster shells make the perfect starter home for baby oysters, and now entire reefs are rebuilding themselves. Waste turned into wildlife hero.
