Dublin Rose Wows Crowd With Olivia Dean Dance

The Rose of Tralee crowd could not believe their eyes when the Dublin Rose took to the stage and completely stole the show. She performed a stunning dance that blended Somali and Irish styles together, all set to the sound of one of Olivia Dean's songs. The mix of moves looked incredible, celebrating two cultures at once and showing off serious talent in front of a huge audience. It is exactly the sort of moment that makes the Rose of Tralee so special every year, and it proves just how far Olivia Dean's music travels, all the way onto one of Ireland's biggest stages. Honestly, we cannot stop watching the clips back.

Today's Lesson: The Cartwheel

real Poppie words

Warm up first

  1. Warm up properly (wrists, shoulders and legs) and never do a cartwheel cold.
  2. Find a big open space on something soft, grass or a mat, with nothing to bump into.

Get the shape

  1. Stand up tall, arms up by your ears, and pick your strong leg to go first. Step it in front into a lunge.
  2. Imagine a straight line on the floor. A good cartwheel goes hand, hand, foot, foot, all along that one line.

The cartwheel

  1. Reach down the line, put your first hand down, then your second hand, and kick your legs up and over sideways, like a wheel turning.
  2. Keep your arms and legs nice and straight, and point your toes the whole way over.
  3. Land foot, then foot, and come up tall with your arms back by your ears. Finish like a gymnast showing the judges.

Make it better

  1. Practise over and over on the same line. The straighter your line, the better it looks.
  2. When it feels easy, try to slow down at the very top so you're almost in a handstand in the middle. That's the secret to a really strong cartwheel.

Coach's tip: hand, hand, foot, foot. Say it out loud while you do it and your body follows the words. And always on something soft! ๐Ÿ’œ

Recipe 1: How to Cook a Steak

real Poppie words

Before you start

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Take your steak out and put it on a chopping board or plate.

Season it

  1. Heat your pan, around medium to high heat.
  2. Salt and pepper: rub it in, massage it a bit, then do the other side.
  3. Put the olive oil on the steak, not on the pan.

Cook it

  1. Steak onto the pan.
  2. One minute on each side. Keep flipping until it looks done the way you like it: well done, medium rare, however you like your steak.
  3. Take it off the pan and let it cool for a bit.
  4. Then you can cut your steak up.

Chef's tip: the oil goes on the steak, not the pan. That's how the pros do it. ๐Ÿณ
